For nearly 30 years, Joe Mahoney has steadily shaped a financial services career based on leadership, integrity, growth and long-term relationships.  His personal philosophy is to create a dynamic culture for talented professionals to build a great career and for those new to the business -- to “learn it the right way.”

In 2006, Joe joined John Hancock Financial Network to accelerate the growth of its Dallas office.  He is currently building upon John Hancock Financial Network’s comprehensive training program, expanding the resources, continuing education, advanced markets support and strategic marketing capabilities of the firm while adding new, highly motivated and knowledgeable financial professionals to his team.

 

In working with his clients, Joe believes in providing comprehensive financial solutions to meet his clients' needs.  Joe’s strategy is to provide wealth management solutions that will help you to accumulate wealth while preserving and protecting your assets.  Joe works closely with a network of professionals to provide solutions that will meet personal, business, or estate financial goals.

 

A graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans, Joe has consistently been a top producer, winning numerous awards as well as life-time membership in the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), an industry’s international association of financial professionals.

 

Joe is also active in the Dallas community working closely with the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and supporting the local high school sports teams.  In addition, he served on the Board of the Dallas chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

 

Joe and his wife, Mary Lou, reside in Dallas. They have two children, Maureen and Matthew.

David Fussell joined John Hancock in 1982, and achieved his Certified Financial Planning [CFP] professional designation in 1990.  He’s also achieved Honor Club status as a personal producer.

 

David graduated in 1969 from Texas Tech with a B.S.M.E. degree.  Prior to joining John Hancock he spent 24 years in project management, facility management and production supervision.

 

David has a long history of contributing ‘above and beyond’ to both the firm and his community.  He’s very active in his church, as well as a number of community projects.  For example, weekends will often find him with hammer or paint brush in hand, working with other members of his church to repair and refurbish homes for those less fortunate. 

 

 

 

Veronica M. Bell

Veronica has responsibility for the business aspects of strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, recruiting, business development and marketing.

 

Prior to joining John Hancock, Veronica was a founding principal with Leganomics, a management consulting firm.  She assisted companies in comprehensive business, financial and marketing strategies to drive effective decision-making, and promote profitability and efficiency.  Just prior to starting Leganomics, she was with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where she gained extensive experience in management consulting, organizational development, human resources, process management, technology implementation and project management. 

 

Before her tenure at PwC, she was with the Neiman Marcus Group.  Veronica was a Manager of Systems Implementation and Support in the Management Information Systems division of Bergdorf Goodman in New York City.  At Neiman Marcus in Dallas her experience included merchandising, sales and systems development, human resources, and training development and delivery.

 

Veronica holds a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Political Science from Syracuse University.  Her volunteer and professional organization experience consists of serving as Board Chair of The Hillcrest Academy Foundation, co-chair of the annual technology conference for the Dallas Chapter of the International Association of Career Management Professionals, Vice-President of Membership for the Dallas Chapter of the American Society of Training & Development, and Board Director for the African-American Museum of Life and Culture.

Bob Horton brings more than 30 years of sales and management experience in the insurance industry to his position as a Brokerage Manager with the Dallas/Ft. Worth firm.  Bob joined John Hancock as Sales Manager in 1994. He was subsequently recognized with the John Hancock Sales Manager’s Recognition Conference, an honor accorded to a select group of managers throughout the company meeting exacting standards. In 2003 he shifted his focus on the firm's management team to Brokerage.

 

His particular area of specialization is in products for the retiree market, primarily Long-term Care insurance, and life insurance.  He is also a member of NAIFA.   Bob is a private pilot who owns his own plane, as well as an enthusiastic golfer.

Joe Banes has more than 30 years of experience in the life insurance industry.  He has served as an agent, Sales Manager, Regional Trainer, Regional Director of Agencies and Regional Vice President during his lengthy career in the industry.
 
Joe has received numerous awards throughout his career; Joe was honored as the Sales Manager of the Year for the Dallas/Fort Worth location of John Hancock, as well as a recipient of the company’s Field Quality Award multiple times.  In addition, Joe qualified for the John Hancock Sales Manager Recognition Conference for five-plus years. Joe received his CLU designation in 1973, and his ChFC designation in 1983.  He has served as a moderator for both LUTC and AMTC, as well as president of the Fort Worth GAMA, and on the Board of Directors for the Fort Worth Association of Life Underwriters. 
 
Joe is married to his high school sweetheart Laverne, and they have two daughters.  He attended Meridian Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi.  Joe and Laverne are members of the University Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where Joe has served as a Deacon and chaired several major committees.
 
 
 

Samuel R. Lee, J.D. CLU, ChFC, AEP

A third generation family member of the life insurance industry, Samuel [‘Sam’] Lee has more than 25 years of experience in providing products and services for estate and business insurance for affluent individual and corporate clients. Lee is a life member of the industry’s prestigious Million Dollar Round Table and has qualified for the organization’s distinguished Top of the Table and Court of the Table.  He’s an experienced public speaker and has been featured at numerous industry and company seminars and meetings.   In addition to his CLU, ChFC and AEP, he is also a Licensed Insurance Counselor [Texas] and a Registered Life Settlement Advisor.

Sam entered the insurance industry in 1978, after five years in private law practice.   He has worked for other leading insurance and financial insurance companies.

Sam received a Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in Insurance and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1970.  He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Houston, Bates College of Law in 1973.

Sam is a member of NAIFA, The Society of Financial Service Professionals [formerly the American Society of CLU/Dallas Chapter], having served on the Board of Directors in 1993 - 1998 and as President of that organization in 1997, the Dallas Estate Planning Council [serving on the Board of Directors 1991-1993 and 2003-2005], the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation Planned Giving Development Council [2001-2004] and the Association of Advanced Life Underwriters [AALU].

Lawrence Whaley, CLU coordinates all educational activities and programs for our firm.   Lawrence, who joined the firm in 1999, entered the life insurance business in 1968. He earned the Chartered Life Underwriter Designation [CLU] in 1971.   He spent four years (1983 to 1987) as Vice-President, Executive Planning Division for Alexander and Alexander Inc. focusing on the sale of deferred compensation plans using life insurance to public corporations,  and estate planning for corporate executives with public and private companies. Lawrence also spent four years with the National Institute for Estate Planning, where he presented estate planning seminars in community banks for their depositors.     

 

He also began working as a Dale Carnegie Sales Course Instructor in 1983 --- since that time he has provided coaching and training for more than 1,500 sales professionals.

 

Lawrence graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1966.  In 1968, he received his Master of Business Administration from the Wharton Graduate School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctor in 1971 from Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas. 

 

Lawrence is a member of the Dallas Estate Planning Council, and Past President of the Dallas Chapter of the American Society of CLU.  He’s active in both the Farmer’s Branch and the Garland Chamber of Commerce.

 

He serves as a Mentor for the Garland Independent School District, and is a founding member of the Library Associates for the University of Dallas.  He’s also a member of the Metropolitan Serra Club of Dallas and Opus Dei.  He has served as a School Board member for Holy Trinity Catholic Church and he’s a guest lecturer on church history and sacred scripture for Holy Trinity.  He has served as Chairman for the Cistercian Preparatory School Athletic Board, President of his chapter of Toastmasters International and on the Board of Directors of the Youth Achievement Foundation. 

 

Lawrence and his wife Mary Kay live in Dallas. They have one married son who is an orthopedic surgeon in San Antonio, and are blessed with three grandchildren.
